How to perform ritual

 Whether you are giving offerings or doing some other type of ritual, it's also advisable to create a circle of protection before commencing the ritual. Someone accused me of being Wiccan and new age (!) for doing this. But rituals have been performed in a circle since pagan times. 

When we open a door to the spirit world, we must create a boundary so unwanted visitors do not come in. This is just good, sensible practice.  

In Nordic mythology, the dwarves Austri, Vestri, Norðri and Suðri hold up the sky and represent the four cardinal directions and their names were used in Kennings.
